RealMedia - Encoding
Using RealProducer Basic to encode a RealMedia file.
To encode files for RealMedia you will first have to download and install the RealProducer Basic. See the documentation with the software for more information on system requirements and methods for connecting recording devices. The following instructions describe how to encode a file using RealProducer Basic.
- Open RealProducer Basic and go to “File” and select “Open Input File” and select the media file that you wish to encode. By default, the browser dialog box will only show media files that have acceptable formats.
- Go to “Settings” and select “Show Audiences” to select the Rate for which you wish to encode. (The default setting in RealProducer Basic 11 is 256k DSL or Cable.) With RealProducer Basic, you are limited to only 3 rates at one time. With RealProducer Plus, you are allowed to select more rates.

Refer to the following table to select the appropriate rates (audiences) for RealMedia.
